What are best practices in data management?

You might look at the Society for Clinical Data Management website (http://www.scdm.org/). They have developed a nice guidance document on Good Clinical Data Management Practices, but I believe this document is now only available to members.

This is a fairly broad topic, but a good place to start might be this presentation on “Clinical Research Data Collection and Management,” prepared by Anita Walden, an Informatics Project Leader with the Duke Clinical Research Institute.

The presentation includes information on standards, pooling data, data repositories, exchanging and sharing data, and migrating data.
