The Study Design Categorizer

This tool is designed to help you figure out what kind of study design you have by asking you between 2 and 6 simple questions. Please choose the appropriate answer below. All suggestions for refining our tool and questions are very welcome. Thanks!

Question 1: Does the study use or collect measurements or assessments about individual humans?

  • YES , the study uses/collects measurements/assessments about individual humans
  • NO , the study does NOT use/collect measurements/assessments about individual humans

Click on "Yes" if your study primarily uses or collects data from individual humans (e.g., lab values, disease outcomes, questionnaire responses) or from human specimens (e.g., expression profile from tissue samples).

Click on "No" if your study primarily uses or collects data about something other than individual humans. For example, an ecological study is about populations, a meta-analysis is about studies, a decision analysis is about a decision strategy. These studies may secondarily use or collect data about humans (e.g., assessing utilities in humans for a decision analysis).
