Case Study 1 - A researcher needs to submit a competitive renewal for his NSF grant this year. The grant will support half of his University salary. So far his analysis of the data isn’t supportive of his hypothesis. He is desperate to get a paper published before submitting the renewal. Case Study 2 - An oncologist wants to investigate the effectiveness of a new drug which may help prevent colon cancer. She owns $20,000 worth of stock in the company that manufactures the drug, but $20,000 is less than 5% of her annual income. Case Study 3 - An IT professional is in charge of ordering computer equipment for her department. Her spouse owns a computer equipment business that could provide the equipment at a good price.
